QUEEN CRESCENT - Self Titled (2015)

ALBUM REVIEW By SAM SCARPELLI
2015 MARCH 3

Imagine everything you love about Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull and Heart, combine it into one band, and you get a taste of the doom riddled greatness of Queen Crescent. Residing in multiple worlds at once, familiar yet refreshing, you will find yourself wondering what year it is in the best way possible. Even the cover artwork from their new vinyl album looks authentically retro. Prepare for an earful of fuzz wicked enough to slay any doubts of rock’s demise, infused with melodious flute like honey on coal, driven by sledgehammer drums and a pounding bass in your face!

The image of the band is as powerful as the music, and seeing them live in Olympia, WA on the second date of their current tour was a musical experience I’ll always remember. Within the duality of having two lead vocalists, one with electric guitar and the other with flute, was a constant balance of energies, allowing you to focus on the greatness of the band as a whole instead of one lead member. On the other hand it was insightful to watch each musician in the performance of their particular style, as they were all skilled in their own right.

The limited edition vinyl release I bought at the show has been in the favorites pile of my collection ever since, and nestles nicely with my couple hundred other 60s rock albums. For only $20 at the show and featuring a rad white color disc it is an album you need in your collection, and you can shop happy knowing that you have supported a local band! Keep in mind that you must await the next Lunar Eclipse before you spin this disc!
